I feel like my music is written within the context of a young man living and loving in the smallness of Kentucky. It seems to resinate with a wide audience and reflects the simple setting and southern sensibilities that so many of us were shaped by.
I'm more of a balladeer or a storyteller. I try to paint a picture or at least offer some imagery within my writing that is more than just a collection of words spread over a melody.
My wife is my hardest critic. She will usually let me know real quick if a song is forgetable. If she likes it, then I get very excited; her perspective is not that of an artist but of a listener, and that is most valuable.
Floord is all grown up. When it began it was just like each of its parts: young and unsure of itself. Now Floord has become a very rich musical blend of all the moments we experienced over the past decade. It has been awesome to watch it develop and change as we changed. Floord is one of my proudest accomplishments and I still love to put on my boots and sing the songs that have brought me so many teriffic memories and friends. Floord has seen much success over its span of ten years, including sharing the stage with some of country musics best and brightest (Little Big Town, Big and Rich, Jack Ingram, Mark Wills, Daryll Worley, and many more). Floord has become a staple in the nightlife of Nashville including frequent stops to the World famous Wildhorse Saloon, 12th and Porter, and 3rd and Lindlsey. Floord has also toured across the East with stops in New York City, Cincinnati, Knoxville, Atlanta, and Biloxi. Floord has also released a large some of material spanning over four albums: Listen, The Traveling Salvation Show, Live on A Nashville Sunday Night, and The County Line EP. The band continues to play its own brand of Straight Kentucky Rockin' Country and to be a force in the regional music scene.
Sakes Alive is the brainchild of my friend, Josh Hampton as an artistic leap from the music we were bound to while playing with Floord. Sakes Alive has no boundaries. It has allowed us to do music, without prejudice to style or genre, that we simply enjoy. It will run the gammet from reggae to Jazz, from R and B to Bluegrass to folk. Pretty wide open, I know, but we needed this space to do whatever we wanted. Sakes Alive is a release for me; a place where I can explore.
